Army Public School Roorkee was established in 1990 by converting the erstwhile Bengal Sappers Knox Memorial School. The school is affiliated to CBSE in 1990 vide CBSE, New Delhi letter No. CBSE/Aff/21439/90 2132-35 dated 27 Jul 90.
A chain of Army Public Schools is being established in various Military Stations under the Aegis of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). There is a three-tier command and control system of Army Public Schools i.e. Board of Governors and its executive committee at Army Headquarters, Board of Administration at Headquarters Command and Managing Committee at stations where the schools are located.
IArmy Public School, Roorkee is in Central Command and its Patron is GOC, UB Area. The Chairman is Station Commander, Roorkee. The Managing Committee helps in organizing the day-to-day functions of the school. The Managing Committee is constituted by the representatives of various Army units, teachers, parents, and educationists. This school became a Secondary School in 1990 and a Senior Secondary School in 1992-93 with science stream. The commerce Stream was introduced from the academic session 1994-95. Humanities have been started from the academic Session 2000-2001.
From 1st July 2011, Army Public School Roorkee has been re-designated as Army Public School No1, Roorkee
